Question DetailsAsked on 8/14/2014

Caradco windows installed 20 years ago have failed and am looking to replace top sash in at least ten of them.

In ten out of the twelve Caradco wood framed windows I had installed, the seal has failed in the top sashes and because of the moisture that's collected between the panes, you can no longer see out of them. I contacted JELD-WEN to see if they would honor the warranty because they acquired Caradco and they said they would discount the cost of replacement sashes. My problem is I don't know how to install the replacements. Is this something I need a contractor for or is there some way to do it myself if I could figure out how to get the top sash out? Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the top sashes in these windows and could you send me directions?

Basically I'm asking if I need to hire a contractor or can I replace the sashes myself? Does anyone know how this is done?

Just starting the process of gathering information from JELD-WEN regarding this type of issue. Our casement windows have rotted on the bottom sashes. Looking into replacing those sashes. Specifically asked JELD-WEN if we needed to hire a contractor and their reply was "you would need to be somewhat handy" to replace the sashes. Not sure what that means, but gonna give it a go! We figure someone on the net would help if need be!
