One of the most popular questions here - the first link below has about 130-some answers, the others add more details on expansion tanks. If installed with the new water heater, should be typically about $50-100 contractor cost (raw tank retial cost about $30-60 depending on size) for that size water heater, and little to maybe $50 additional labor depending on whether the tank is threaded connection to the pipe or has to be soldered. I STRONGLY recommend going with a threaded connection for the few extra one-time bucks - not good practice to solder the expansion tank as it can damage the rubber membrane inside - almost all tanks these days are put in with threaded fittings. (BTW - differe4ance in tank cost from 30 to 40 gallons typically about $100 - so I generally, expect for 1-person house trailers and such, recommend 40 gallon minimum, and 50 gallon if teenagers or multiple babies or such in the house, or if anyone likes long showers or full baths.
