I am going to stick my neck out and assume newwindowman meant $500 PER WINDOW for normal economy normal size windows - not $500 for 6 units. $500-1000/window (for normal about 2x3 foot size) is the normal range for decent to good (but not top-end) windows.

I am also assuming you meant double-pane, not double-insulated. Double-insulated windows (where there are two distinct bands of insulated seals between glass and frame to greatly reduce frame-to-glass heat transmission) commonly run close to $700-1000 just for the window unit so probably more like $1500 range per normal sized window installed.

Of course, larger windows like bay or picture windows can easily run into the couple thousand or more depending on size and quality and thermal performance, and also for larger windows on whether firsta story or not - because for large windows on second story commonly requires scaffolding be put up to handle and install it.
