Question DetailsAsked on 10/9/2014

Cost for replacing garage door in a townhouse (they are very small doors)?

2 of the panels in my existing door are cracked, etc. I was told I could replace just the panels but I think I should just do the entire door...thoughts - costs for each???

If these are just the normal plywood insert panels, probably about $200-250 range to replace. If insulated door or metal panel, more likely $250-400 range.

Total vinyl or wood door replacement, without opener replacement, likely to be $400-700 range if tilt-up wood, more like $600-1000 range if panel rollup door - in factory colors, not including painting to your house color if desired. Of course, depending on what you go with, i a much heavier door you might have to replace the opener for about $200 probably if done at same time as door replacement.

If your door is not cracking up in the frame and you are happy with its insulating status, I would just replace the panels - making sure the cause of the cracked panels is fixed if this was not due to vandalism or accidental impact or just weathering of the material. Could be one of your door springs is broken or lost tension so the door is racking itself as it opens (lifting more at one side than the other) - could add $75-150 range additional to your cost if springs need replacement, which would not be a bad idea if very old and coil springs (rollup door), as they tend to give out after 20-30 years.
