Does Angie's List keep the advertised fee paid for by the homeowner or does the contractor get it?

I hired a company from Angie's List to do insulation in my home, I got an estimate and I gave him a deposit for the job, and when the job was complete, he changed the estimate , it went up $50.00 and when I asked to have the $99.00 I originally paid for the advertised deal subtracted out along with my deposit he said he could not subtract out the $99.00 because Angie's List keeps that money, he did not get it.

AL keeps part of the Deal amount- up to the amount of the "deposit" that you put on your credit card on AL, basically as a fee for carrying the advertising for the deal. Presumably, the contractor agrees to this off-the-top fee because he is presumably getting more jobs out of the deal, and exposure of his name to more potential customers.

Of course, the other possibility is he just jacks his estimate up tht amount to compensate for the "discount" or coupon charge.

Angie's list keeps about 30% of the big deals, if there was additional work done above and beyond the big deal then you would be required to pay that. If they gave you an estimate they should also be able to provide the additional cost of the $50 more you had to pay. If you are unsatisfied with your Big Deal you can leave the contractor a negative feedback and that there was a contractual issue is why you where unhappy. The contractor most likely will reach out to you to resolve the issue.

Hi,

This is Leah B. in Member Services, happy to help!

I'm sorry for the pricing issues on your Big Deal. I've forwarded a request to our Big Deal department to follow up with the business on your behalf to clarify the Deal. When they've done this, a member of the Big Deal team will follow up with you directly.

As has been previously mentioned, the service provider does receive payment on Big Deals offered in partnership with Angie's List, once the Big Deal service has been completed. If you, or the provider, have further questions regarding Big Deals, we can be reached at 888-944-5478.
