Fair cost of replacing gable roof (20 squares asphalt shingles) in Tampa

Estimates I am receiving are much higher than I have paid in other places. Does it really cost more to put on a roof in the summer than in the fall?

Generally, I can't see why more expensive in summer unless they are charging a surcharge for giving the workers more rest time, especially in Florida. However, given your area's tendency to daily afternoon thunderstorms in the summer, they may be charging more figuring they are going to have to stop work and tarp the roof and come back the next day to finish, rather than get it done in one continuous day as is common for normal sized (2000SF range) roofs.

Probably the primary reason you are paying more is the strict (some read an onerous) Florida hurricane and hail related codes, requiring more expensive underlayment and hurricane-rated shingles.

One other factor is shingles have more than doubled in cost in about the last 7-10 years, so that drives the cost up some from what you remember too.
