Question DetailsAsked on 12/12/2014

For Oceanside, CA area: need maintenance done for yard of shrubs, hedges, plants and small patch of grass.

Hello, My yard is mostly shrubs, 3 hedges that are on the border of the property, 2 ornamental trees in front. The patch of grass is about the size of a 2nd bedroom! It seems all the workers who have been here concentrate too much on the grass and don't do the main part of the yard. Which company, contractor, can you recommend who speaks English. Need crew of 2. A one man job will not do.

The normal Search the List category for this would be Lawn and Yard Work - but as you say, the bulk of those services emphasize yard debris cleanup and mowing. Perhaps what you need is Landscaping company that does routine plant care, or a Gardener (not an AL category - gardeners are lumped into Lawn and yard Work). You could google or yellow pages for local gardeners and then cross-check names on AL for any reviews (or cross-match the AL listings for Yard and Lawn care against those companies advertising on web or yhellow pages under Gardener also) - or ask a neighbor who uses a gardener for their plant maintenance if they like their provider.

As for the 2 man crew - WHY ? You need so many man-hours of work a week or month - whether it is 2 men for X hours a month or one man for 2X hours makes no difference unless you insist on being there the whole time they are working for security purposes. By requiring a 2-man crew you might be unnecessarily excluding good providers, because what you are talking about (unless a mansion with large grounds) is typically a one-man job - lawn care companies tend to run 2-3 men and be in and out in 10 minutes or so, but plant care specialists tend to use one-man crews more often.
