If you are talking about doing it yourself, like it sounds, if you have to ask you probably cannot do it. Not being meann or abusive - just that this is not something you learn without having done it with an experienced person the first time, especially for an automatic transmission, which is probably what you are talking about. Just too many tricks to disassembly and assembly, getting shims and bearings in right, etc to have a good chance of being able to do it yourself without experience. If you can take a car COMPLETELY apart (including disassembling and rebuildin the engine and all accessories), thenn maybe it will work for you.

If you know how to rebuild a transmission in general (especially an automatic) you would still want the shop manual for it, or in a pinch if you cannot find one used on the web or get one from GM, at least a Chilton or similar manual on your model and year. (A quick look found a 1970 GM manual on CD on Amazon for $75, and a Chiltons at JC Whitney for $25 covering that year and model, so they are out there).

You may also be able to find a fair amount of videos and blogs about it on the web at carhead sites.

If not up to doing it yourself, I expect a remanufactured transmission from a reputable nationwide rebuilder would be the best bet for you - there are very few transmission shop around today that can do a competent rebuild job.
