Horrid strong latrine smell that intermittently appears in one bedrooms - what causes have I not considered?

- Brick rancher built in the 50s. Lots of old copper pipes and orphaned pipes still present.
- Had a gas furnace & AC installed in Sept. Decommissioned an old boiler at the same time. One morning a few days later I woke to such a strong porta potty smell I had to go to another room to finish sleeping. Odor disappeared by mid-morning.
- It's come back 2-3 times since, always at night strong enough to wake me up, always in one corner of that room, between a drafty original window on one wall and the room's air supply vent/another window on the other (both exterior walls). My nose isn't good enough to tell 100% if a window or the vent is the source. No odor in the bathroom across the hall or anywhere else. Return vent is in ceiling just outside bedroom/bathroom.
- Ducts and vents were deep cleaned early Nov.
- Woke to the smell last night ~2am. HVAC was running fan only (no heat/AC).
- I've booked a plumber to do a smoke test. Anything else I could check if that doesn't find the source?
