Question DetailsAsked on 2/8/2013

How much should a 40' generator cable and a safety electrical connection box cost to install in my house?

I bought a generator and I want to have a safety electrical box connected to my house service so I can safely connect the cord to the electrical system in the house. I also want a 40' generator cord fabricated to connect the generator to my house. How much should I expect to pay an electrician for both?

i know you dont wanna hear this, but it really does depend on quite a few factors and your question doesnt give enough info to get an estimate. The wire size would need to be known, and thats determined by the amperage of the generator, next is what size generator to determine transfer switch, then different manufactureres charge different prices. Call around and look for a company that gives free estimates and get about three of them, that will get you in the ballpark.
