Most state websites have a directory where you can directly look up that information. Search for your state and contractor license director and you should find it pretty easily. You can also find great information about how much a contractor can legally charge as a down payment and other pricing information. It's best to arm yourself with as much knowledge going in to any home improvement project to ensure you get the best quality work at the best price.
