There's much more information needed for an HVAC contractor to give you a price. Call 3-4 in your area with good reputations and get quotes based on their recommendations. Ask them point blank why they recommend what they do. Ask them how that compares to the other bids you receive. They'll need to find out your total square footage, year the home was built to estimate the insulation value, gas or electric, heat pump or strip, and much more.

It is hard to say for any contractor "BallParking" a figure without seeing your property. There are quite a fewthings that need to be taken into consideration to properly size yourequipment, and of course, the size will affect the price. I would mostdefinitely stay away from used equipment and any contractor who would offerthat to you as an option! Do you really think you are getting a deal that way? Youmay purchase the appliance now but find yourself spending extra on repairs inthe end due to stress or age. If they are cutting corners on offering usedequipment, will they do the right thing and size the unit for your home? It is Doubtful!Even if they did, will they have the correct size to install. How would you know?If they install the incorrect size do, you know your energy bill could end up beingtwo, three, or even four times higher than it should be! Do you know how muchenergy an improperly sized system can cost? Trust me it is a lot! I highlyrecommend you not purchase a used appliance. Two of the more obvious reasons isyou’re not covered by the manufacturer's warranty, or the contractors for thatmatter. What will happen a year or two from now when it is not working asexpected? Will he be available to help you? Will he return your calls? Legallyyou have no supporting arguments without a warranty. As stated previously it isimpossible to gage the longevity of the equipment because you do not knowthe conditions it operated under previously. I have said it before and I will sayit again, "if you purchase this type of equipment from a certified contractor, Iwould highly question his moral fortitude. This is never an option in our book,as we never know what we’re giving our customers and we like to sleep atnights!"
