Question DetailsAsked on 5/10/2014

How much should I expect to pay to have a plumber to install a prv?

My water pressure is around 90, so I want to have prv installed to keep it under control.

Valve cost itself is typically about $50-100 in that pressure range, and installation unless very tight quarters should be covered by minimum trip charge (for 1/2 hour work) of about $125 plus or minus $50 - so total cost should be in $125-275 range depending on your local labor costs and valve cost. Single-pressure ones usually closer to $50 each, adjustable closer to $80-100.

PS - if you have the typical gate type main shutoff valve in the house now, this would be a prime time to add a ball shutoff valve on the house side of the gate valve, but before the PRV and any pipe branches or offtakes, because as gate valves get old they corrode and erode, so they do not shut off completely when you need them to stop a leak in the house or shut off water to make a repair. Additional cost probably about $20 if done now.
