How do I file a complaint about LAP Painters in Wilmington NC? This had to be the WORST customer service I ever had

LAP Painters epoxied a floor in my den using insufficient prep (according to several Real professionals I spoke with); causing it to fail, now it looks worse than it did before and he actually had the gall to accuse ME of ruining the floor I paid good, hard earned money for him to install! He refused to come to ANY sort of agreement with me to resolve this issue and basically just blew me off. Now, I'm stuck with a floor that chips easily, a canister vac leaves white marks on it and so did a FELT PAD I put under furniture to protect floor! I have never seen work done so shoddily before in over 35 years of dealing with contractors. He has every excuse in the book for the floor fail except he thought he did everything right, when he obviously didn't. He won't take any responsibility even after I contacted BBB with my complaint.

You don't say how long ago this was done - but i presume you have already paid him. Does sound like a prep problem - so removal and resanding and refinishing sounds in order.

If fairly recent, you have the option of filing a claim with his Bonding company for unsatisfactoruy workmanship, for them to pay to get it removed and redone.

Of course, you have Small Claims Court as an option too - you might prevail if you can get an architect or one of the real estate professionals to testify on your behalf, though that does not mean you will actually be able to collect from him for the cosst of removal and refinishing. Winning is one thing, but the court system generally does zippo about helping you actually recover any damages awarded.

You also (though unlikely to give you any direct help) can file a complaint with the state licensing board IF his type of work requires a license or he has a contractor's license in your state. But they can siuspend or revoke his license, so a complaint sometimes will get a contractor to clean up his act and make it right to make the complaint go away.

Forget about BBB being any help - an organization which allows (actually actively solicits) money from businesses to improve their rating is not to be given any trust or faith, in my opinion. You can post a Review on Angies List using Write A Review, at right end of green banner bar above, to post a bad review for others to see. I don't see a current profile for a company of thast name, so you may have to create a new listing for the company before putting in your review.

If you are a full-price member of AL, and you selected him from Angies List (unlikely, since I find no profile listing) you might be covered by their guarantee program - if so, contact membver services to see.
