Question DetailsAsked on 10/20/2019

How do I get money the roofing company charged me without my authorization?

My roofing contract says that they will require an initial deposit, a second payment, then a final payment upon completion. The work started when I paid the deposit and the second payment. The company then charged my card for the final payment without my authorization and without completing the work.

First of all, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. Explain the circumstances. They will likely have you fill out a form either online or they can send it to you. I've had very good results taking this path (although not in your particular circumstance).

If you did not authorize the final payment, you should be able to resolve this. They should put a hold on the charge (meaning you won't make payments towards it) until it is resolved.

Contact the roofing company and tell them you have disputed the charge. They won't like the idea that they could have the entire amount of the final payment reversed on them and might be the impetus needed to have them complete the job.
