Question DetailsAsked on 10/18/2014

How much to change from fuses to circuit breakers.

I live in New England and have an old Colonial House. It approximately 100 years old. Home still has fuses. I would like to upgrade to circuit breakers. What would be an approx cost for an electrician to do this.

Depends a lot on your local building code - some allow this, some require that if doing a major electrical upgrade to breakers that all the wiring be upgraded to current code too, which is really pretty stupid because it discourages the much greater safety of breakers, especially GFCI or AFCI type.

You can get some idea of the typical costs in someof the link right below this answer - more responses to this issue in quite aq few questions in the Home > Electrical link in Browse Projects, at lower left.
