How to convert regular home bathroom/tub into sauna/steam room.

Hubby wants to make our bathroom into a steam room. Like a sauna. While vacationing at a resort a few years ago, our resort had a shower which steamed up the whole bathroom like a sauna. Hubby loved it and wants the same in our home. He's currently too busy to research . So, I am asking around. He will consider building it himself if not much involved. But I wonder if there are any special kits? Seems like it will be super expensive.

There are steam-on-demand systems that can add steam to an existing shower but I would emphatically recommend against that - you end up with a mold farm in your bathroom and vent system, as well as window condensation all over the house in cold weather.

For an fully enclosed stand-up (or maybe tiny bench) steam shower - about $1500-3000 for 1 to 2 person units installed (new house or replacing existing same-sized shower), depending largely on how far steam plumbing has to come from steam unit, and how much new electrical you need for the steam generator.

A small (2-3 person) sit-down steam shower and sauna kit runs about $2000-5000 purchase cost, plus about $1000-3000 for the installation, plumbing, and added electrical circuit, with the higher end number being if you need to upgrade your electrical panel capacity to handle it.

Here are a few FAQ's about home steam showers from other sites - just don't believe the homewyse costs - WAY low:

The vapor control, plumbing, and electrical are pretty much beyond the normal do it yourselfer.

You mean a steam generator? This can be of help: steam bath

It will make your shower a more entertaining experience, and also it's quite easy to install.
