If you click on one of the two links right under your question, and look for questions relating to cost for an addition, you can get some ballpark ideas. You are going to need an architect to do the design anyway, so why not get one on board, come up with a rough design and preliminary cost estimate, and see where you want to go from there.


A concept level layout and rough cost estimate (based on standard per SF costs) for about $1000 ballpark typically will give you a much better handle on cost and whether this is in your budget or not. Then if you go ahead, the architect can finish out the detailed plans with you, prepare the blueprints and specs, and off you go to finding a general contractor to do your job.
