How much does it cost to clean a wool 10 X 20 area rug in the room..

I have never heard of it being done in the room - wool rugs have to be specially cleaned, patly because wool shrinks badly, because it is not color-fast, and it will also mildew if cleaned with conventional carpet shampooing and left laying on the floor because wool holds so much water, so it has to be washed then laid out on a plastic rack (to prevent rust staining) that allows air circulation all around it - typically using a low-temperature blower to slowly and uniformly dry it so it does not bunch and go out of shape - much like drying a wool sweater but on a larger scale. Cost last time I heard was around $5/SF plus or minus a buck or so and that matches the price shown on a couple of current carpet specialty shop web price lists - so it turns out that an imported normal run of the mill carpet can be cheaper to replace than wash. Cost would include pickup and delivery.

Now you know why very few people buy wool carpet - and even fewer replace a wool one with another wool one. FUnny how the sales people tend to forget to mention that - just like leather funiture dealers fail to mention you need to have a permanent slip cover over the leather if you wan tto avoid cracking and body oil staining.
