How much does it cost to have a whole house fan installed

I have a 2200 sqft 2-story house with an open entry, living room and kitchen with 16 ft ceilings. I would like an attic fan/whole house fan installed in the hallway upstairs to create more air circulation and cut down on cooling costs.

With 16 foot ceiling, you probably need a whole-floor if not whole-house fan system so there are several distribution points - one is not likely to effect more than about 10-15 lineal feet of hall.

The attic heat should be handled seperately - either by ridge venting if you don't have that already, or forced ventilation if you do and it is still too hot.

You need an evaluation by a qualified HVAC contractor (about $150-200), then whatever is needed to solve your problem.

Probably about $250-500 for attic fan, ridge venting (assuming shingle roof) about $6-10/LF, large multi-room vaulted ceiling ventilation could run from $500-1500 range, assuming attic is accessible for running duct.
