How much should it cost to repair my dog's cruciate ligament by surgery?

My Great Dane/Boxer mix pulled a ligament in his back leg & vet says it needs to be surgically repaired. Any ideas on how much it should cost? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm an hour north of NYC, NY and to do that repair around here is $1500 plus whatever else gets added on... meds, pretests, etc etc ad nauseum.

Prices vary... make some phone calls to other vets. You want a vet who does this type of surgery on a more or less regular basis.

Sorry to hear about your puppy! My dog's first surgery repair (TTA) on his left knee was offered as a discount for around $2000.00. About two years later the right knee needed done and that surgery repair (TPLO) was around $3000.00. He was able to participate in a clinical study that first go around. The vets were seeing if there was a significant difference between TTA and TPLO repairs. Study did not find one to be better than the other - however, my dog bounced back so much quicker with the TPLO. Talking months quicker. I wish you the best of luck! Be sure to keep up on the physical therapy. -Anne
