Question DetailsAsked on 4/9/2014

How much does it cost to have a reversing valve replaced?

My Rheem was installed by a reputable company back in May 2011. It has given me nothing but headaches and has apparently been on the shelf since 2008. Just recently the reversing valve cracked on it, so now it is completely empty of refrigerant and apparently oil too. They originally quoted me at 1972.00 then brought it down to 1792. They found out my parts are under warranty and now brought down the price to 1299.00 They also made a point to say that once that is fixed there can be more damage done to the unit. Is this a fair estimate? This company is notorious for being 30-50% overpriced(tried to charge me 534 to replace a garbage disposal).

Repair prices vary greatly around the country, as do wages and overhead costs.

That siad, we are in Florida, and the $1299.00 15 to 20% more then we would charge, so depending on your location, probably not out of line.

The larger concern is the compressor may have been damaged, similar charge to replace it,likely less as you won't need replacement refrigerant. No way to know if the compressor is good at this point.
