Question DetailsAsked on 6/16/2014

How much does it cost to have my wooden deck enlarged lengthwise by10 feet and widened 6 feet?

I need my porch/deck widened 6 feet and lengthened 10 feet. The existing porch is built with 2 x 4s and pickets for an enclosed porch.

Assuming here you mean perimeter deck - not a roofed-over porch.

If this were a simple add-on off the end (along the house) this would be my answer:

Depends of course on height off ground, type of materials used, type of railing you have (because presumably all these have to match existing) and if any new stairs involved - also depth of footing needed (if in deep frost zone or not). Probably around $500 probably absolute bottom line for plain lumber on concrete on-grade pier blocks, and more likely in $1000 range with typical deck woods, closer to $1500-2000 probably with synthetic decking, and on up if new stairs, fancy or glass railing, metal decking, etc.

However, you are talking extending away from the house too - without replacing your existing stringers (supporting beams) to add the 6 additional feet, and providing beefier or additional support beam crosswise to them, this would be a really hokey scab-on because you would have a joint which would flex at the start of the 6 foot addition, so your deck would likely have a slight change in slope at that intersection unless you kept adjusting adjustable footing anchor brackets.

Depends an AWFUL lot on type of footings and beams and such and if you have a concrete perimeter foundation or just on block piers on grade. Perhaps if you could respond back using the Answer This Question link right under your question and attach a couple of photos of overall deck and the current underside appearance, we might be able to give you a better response. Otherwise, I could only ballpark at probably $1-3,000 range depending on a lot of things, and I would expect a wide range of pricing from Deck and Porch contractors (your Search The List term).

It is also possible, if the supporting beams are 2x4's, that it is a home-built porch that could never meet code so would be a total tearout for a contractor to work on it, in which case the replacement cost might be about in the range of $10-25/SF for the total deck area, WITHOUT any roof.
