How expensive is it to replace baseboard heating and put in an alternative with full central air?

We are looking at buying an older home, 2 Story, ~2200 sq ft, and it has baseboard heat. I personally hate baseboard heat. I find it inefficient and expendsive to run in NEPA, and also exceedingly ugly from an interior design perspective- it is truly unsightly.
And my husband won't buy a home we can't put central air in.
Other than apartments with baseboard, our last two homes were forced air, and the other previous one was a heat pump.
Are there other options like geothermal (home is in a in-town setting), and would either of the ones we have experience with work as a replacement within say a $10,000 budget?
