Question DetailsAsked on 10/23/2013

How much should a front door replacement cost?

I am planning on replacing the front door because the thrust is rotten and sips water whenever it rains. Please advise what the average price of a one panel front door is.

A couple of responses to that can be found right below this questions - others in the Home > Windows and Doors link right under your question.

Realize, if your door and frame itself are in OK shape, the "thrust" (I presume you mean threshold) which drips (?) water when it rains can be replaced without replacing the door or frame, and a good portion of your problem is probably lack of an exterior weatherstrip/drip cap or shield - looks like this - http://www.acehardware.com/product/in...

Best results will be with a combined threashold/drip cap system with bottom door seal, but that requires taking the door off the hinges to install in most cases.

Threshold replacement (not a tough do it yourself job if you are a do it yourselfer - just be sure to check web sources on how you seal it to frame and underneath as you install it) - parts about $40-70 at home center - you have to be able to cut to length (hacksaw works OK) and caulk, and put in screws. I would emphatically recommend a metal threashold - longer lasting, and waterproof.

Having it done by a handyman or door installer probably about $50-100, versus about $500-700 range for an economy normal-sized entry new door, installed cost.
