How much should a generator installation cost?

I assume you mean 10KW, not 10 W - otherwise I can steer you to a little hand cranked emergency radio/light unit that probably puts out about 10W.

For 10KW, you are probably not going to be able to power your whole home (that usually takes 12-20 KW to handle appliance starting loads), so you would probably need a transfer panel with those circuits you want to have emergency power to. This is more expensive, as far as the electrical side goes (not counting generator) than wiring for the entire house load to be carried on the generator. You might consider this when sizing the generator, if you have not already bought it.

If you look in the Home > Electrical category (link right under your question) you will find several recent questions and corresponding answers about home generator installation costs. Most do NOT include the generator cost, but you should be able to google that easy enough to add up the total.
