How much to install a 220 volt twist lock receptacle for portable generator on panel

Have a 7500-9000 westinghouse (wh7500e) and need a 220v twist lock receptacle installed (inside or outside) to back feed the whole house if power is lost.

Home has standard 100 amp service and will use the main breaker to disconnect power from utility if I need to use the generator. Home has modest power requirement for essentials like freezer/fridg etc. gas heat/ hot water no high draw appliances, about 3-4 kW running, 5 kW max on startup.

Hate to burst your balloon, but that is illegal, because if someone screws up and kicks on the generator before the main breaker is switched off it can energize the powerlines and zap a utility worker who thinks the line has been disconnected (at his end). The main breaker also does NOT totally disconnect the outside lines - only the "live" feed, not the neutral line which can carry voltage back into the power lines.

You have to install a transfer switch - which can be manual or automatic, which disconnects the outside power lines then connects to the generator - all in one switch movement, but with a distinct total disconnect from the outside lines first.

You can find a number of prior questions about hooking up emergency generators and transfer system cost in the Home > Electrical link in Browse Projects, at lower left.
