How long should you wait for a call back from a plumber?

I contacted a plumber who got great reviews on Angie's List. I left a message with a machine on Monday June 3 leaving my work number. I called again on Tuesday leaving my work number and cell number. It is now Wednesday afternoon and nothing.

A contractor who values his clientele, especially one that commonly deals with "emergencies" like a plumber, should be returning calls within 2 hours - i.e. when he next checks his messages after completing a job or taking a break. If you do not hear back within 4 hours (less if it is truly an emergency) try another, and see who calls back first.

A contractor who does longer-term, non-emergency type work (yard care, general contractor, painters, etc) should certainly get back to you within 48 hours at the most.

Unfortunately, some contractors who are in high demand respond to calls when they are ready for more jobs - not considering what that does to their future business reputation.
