How to keep my push mower running?

I was mowing for a good bit and then it just stopped running. Now, it starts and may run a couple seconds before it stops. I was kind of surprised by it, pretty sudden, since I mowed quite a bit before that. Any ideas on what I may try?

Sounds like you are running out of gas, or possibly it is choking out. If it starts and runs a bit then dies, but will keep running longer if you push the prime bulb then it is low on gas, or has an air leak so it is pulling air and gas both.

If it has manual choke, after starting make sure choke it turned off - or if automatic and accessible try holding on, or off by hand after starting and see if that helps. If has to be held on to keep running, then is starving for fuel - out of fuel, air leaking into fuel line, or air filter needs cleaning. If choke has to be held off to keep running, then choke linkage or thermostat is not working right and it is choking out.

Also - ignition resistance is higher on hot spark plug, so a plug going bad (shorting out) or with a loose plug wire might start but not keep running - check plug wire is tight on plug, or maybe try changing plug for a new one.

Also - check for twig or leaves or such blocking movement of choke or governor linkages to the carburetor.
