Question DetailsAsked on 1/24/2017

I have 3 Hickory trees we need removed in exchange for the wood. Located in northern NJ. Suggestions?

Trees are mature, over 100 feet, vertical trunks.

Look in the Lawn & Garden - Tree Service category under Browse Projects, at lower left for a LOT of recent previous similar questions about getting rid of dead/downed trees for free - including info on ballpark removal costs, liability issues, etc.

Since you say straight trunks, somewhat of an oddity with a lot of hickory trees - if you mean a straight-trunk (main trunk follows at large diameter almost to top, rather than the varieties where main trunk only goes up 20-30 feet then branches off to the sides all over) variety then they might be of interest to a local sawmill that does hardwood lumber milling. Would take some googling - or some tree services you contact might already have a deal with a mill for usable hardwood and cut them down and haul away the larger wood and clean up and chip/mulch the remainder and haul it away for free.

If not using a paid tree service (even if you only pay them $1), pay attention to liability issues - particularly if an improperly felled tree could damage utilities or fences or houses, etc.
