Question DetailsAsked on 9/11/2019

I have 5-bd conc. blk. septic rated system, is there a way to expand by “piggy-back” for up to 8 bedrooms?

Current system is concrete block with drain fields in sand (beach cottage) on a 20k Sf lot. There is ample room to expand drain field if needed. Septic tank is located just off and to rear of side of house and easily accessible. (Home footprint is 8’ inside buildable limits on both sides.) Septic is about 20 years old but in great condition and has been well-maintained, annually. We live here year round and are seeking the most economical way to expand the current septic so we can convert a room to a bedroom as well as construct 2 additional bedrooms for our large extended family as well as potential rental long-term.
What’s the best route to go? I have looked but haven’t identified a simple way to leave the existing tank in the ground and just add a “piggy-back” tank of some sort... Is that possible? I’m in NC. Not sure what county will approve for septic system types. But, lot will permit up to 8 beds.
We appreciate any feedback provided. Thank you!
