Question DetailsAsked on 7/22/2012

I AM BUYING A HOME IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.I LIVED IN A APARTMENT, AND BROUGHT THERMAL BLINDS FOR THE PATIO DOOR.THEY COST ME $500.

THE BLINDS WILL COVER ALL OF THE NEW PATIO WINDOW, EXCEPT 2 FEET. I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE THESE BLINDS BEHIND, BECAUSE OF THE COST. WOULD THIS LOOK ALRIGHT WITH A 2 FEET GAP AT THE END OF THE WINDOW. THEY SLIDE ACROSS SIDE TO SIDE.

Good Morning....

It sounds like the blinds were custom made for thepatio doors (always the best way to have coverings done, BTW. Off the shelfitems simply don't fit like they should) and therefore will only really fit theopening they were measured for. Will a blind that really doesn't fit look OK inyour new home? Well, that depends on you. How do YOU feel about how they willlook? The main advantage of a "Thermal Blind" (I'm guessing aCellular or Honeycomb actually) is that they create a somewhat airtight barrierbetween the glass of the opening and the room they are in...but if you have a2' space with no coverage, they cannot be effective.

Have you considered other options? Donating theblind to a charity that will give you a tax receipt will go a long way inoff-setting the cost of a new, properly fitted blind in your new home. Youmight try selling the covering as well. Talk to the apartment owner and tellthem that you'll leave it in place if they pay...they can then charge more forthe unit as it has a custom thermal blind in place.

Congrats on the new home...that's a huge step andthere is nothing like owning your own home.

I hope I've helped a bit.
