I need to know what I can possibly do to get my 5 year old GE side by side refrigerator to start cooling again

My 5 year old GE side by side refrigerator has stopped cooling. What can I possible do to fix it prior to call someone out to fix it?

You'd be surprised at the impact that dirty coils under the refrigerator can have on its ability to cool the inside. Clean the coils and while you're at it, check the small fan that pulls air over the coils (usually located on the bottom at the back of the unit).

If that doesn't fix your problem, it's probably time to call a repairman. The LEAST likely culprit (but most expensive to fix) is the compressor. Possibly you have a defective defrost timer or the defrost circuit on the circuit board is bad.

A five-year-old refrigerator should certainly be worth fixing.
