Question DetailsAsked on 7/12/2012

I think my cat may have ear mites. Her ears look clean. Can anyone suggest a safe home remedy? I can't afford a trip to the vet.

About a week ago, I treated her for fleas, with the liquid that comes in a small capsule that you empty onto the back of the animal's neck. That seems to have worked quite well, but she's STILL shaking her head as if there's something bugging her. I can't see any sign of anything suspicious in her VERY clean little ears. It's not just the cost of the vet that's holding me back. I know she'll go berserk and start hiding from me if I have to put medicine in her ears every day. I am very physically challenged when it comes to chasing down a pissed-off cat on a daily basis.

Ivermectin at a dose of 0.1 ml per ear - push syringe deep into ear, then push plunger and rub base of cat's ear to get it down deep. Can will shake hgead to remove excess. Wipe shaken liquid off inside of ear pinna. It works with this ONE TIME treatment, although the cat can get reinfested. Ivermectin kills ear mites as well as being used in heartworm prevention in dogs, and as an anti-parasite, and to treat mange. Kills lotsa buggies! It is very strong - the 50 ml bottle is concentrated for cattle and swine - so do NOT Overdose your cat. You can get ivermectin online for about $30 at revivalanimaldotcom. Ivermectin is the active ingredient in the ear mite treatment from the vet called Acarexx. You can also buy Revolution for cats, which is labeled to treat ear mites by the mfr - without a precription, at petsheddotcom, because it comes from Australia.
