Question DetailsAsked on 2/15/2012

I have had a chronic cough for 25 years; many docs and treatments including asthma, reflux, sinusitis; any suggestions what I can do next?

I'm desperate; now trying homeopathic which isn't working in the past year. What specialist should I see next?

I'm thinking look at causes/origins around your house, like diet (milk/butter/cheese, dairy products). Do an elimination diet! and reintroduce slowly. Note symptoms...then try eliminating wheat/gluten...Look also at allergens to dust (ductwork clean?) Do you have pets, or did the former homeowners/renters? Changing out carpet & the pad under it for vinyl laminate or hardwood might help a ton! If you can't afford that, hire a steamer/carpet cleaner company. Then, do you smoke, or have other smokers in the house? Ask them to smoke outside, and stop if it is you!...Humidify the air; the coughing is an attempt to clear the cilia and the bronchi of the lungs. If it isn't airborne, could be hidden sources of mold, mildew. Check the crawlspace, venting area for fresh air for furnace system...Treat if findings! Check any meds you have on drugs.com, and see if a side effect could be coughing. I took Diovan for Blood pressure, and it caused a cough...Don't just treat symptoms, look to eliminate the causes! Good luck, good health!

Boy, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record... If you have a chronic cough for 25 years, I'm going to suggest something, you might laugh, but hear me out.

Go to a Holistic Dentist and find out if you have a mouth full of poisonous, mercury laden amalgam fillings in your teeth. You might have five, or twenty, or thirty. They leak mind altering, brain cell poisoning mercury 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - for decades and decades, and decades. It can be the source of your chronic symptoms, or this inhaled mercury can interfere with medicines you are taking which then can cause asthma, reflux, sinusitis, and many worse diseases over time, possibly cancer, and so-called neuro-muscular diseases. And if you smoke, that exacerbates the effects of these poisonous, mercury laden amalgam fillings. Every time you breath in, more mercury gets into your system.

Really, don't think it to death, get to a Holistic Dentist, fast.

Talk is cheap, but if that is what is wrong with you, you can become better, but the sooner, the better.

I had the same issue. I finally found the correct Physican. Did you get any tests done by the reflux Doctors? They did 4 tests and I found out that the coughing had made the spincter muscle in the bottom of the esophagus loose. The solution was a Nisson Fundoplycation surgery.

It tightened the esophagus. The surgery was not fun. You cannot eat any bread products or meat in any form for several months. It took less than 8 months to be feeling normal. No coughing at all now. It changed my life. Explore this possibility.
