Question DetailsAsked on 1/28/2016

I need glass shelves for a china cabinet. Where is the best place to have them cut?

I bought a china cabinet that only has two plate rails I would like to add glass to the plate rails so an entire place setting can be displayed. There are two existing plate rails.

If you have rail ledges or holes for hangers, then just get press-in shelf supports that fit, and go to a Glass and Mirrors place (normal glass replacement place like Speedy Glass) for the glass - generally use regular plate glass but you can get acrylic or shatterproof safety glass if worried about them breaking. If the existing glass (I am unsure if you currently have two shelf supports, or two plate rails with glass and two without) fit, just take a piece of it in for size - otherwise take in closely measured dimensions from wall to wall of the cabinet - or from support tab to support if the glass will be fitting inside the shelf support tabs, and leave about 1/8" clearance for installation. Be sure to measure front and back both - don't count on the cabinet sides being exactly parallel.

Some home imporvement stores and hardware stores also custom cut ordinary plate glass and sometimes acrylic (plexiglass).

Cost probably about $30-50 range if you take in dimensions or existing glass shelf - more like $100 or a bit more probably if you have them come out, take dimensions, then come back another time to install the cut product.
