Question DetailsAsked on 4/7/2014

I am interested in an epoxy or equivalent system for coating existing and old basement area with steps. Any ideas?

750 ft 2 of old basement floor in unfinished area. Am looking for granite look coating that is durable and will level floor and be attractive. Dura-Flek 5000 system has been suggested.

A number of manufacturer make epoxy floor coating systems that you can cover with plastic or mineral-based flakes to make it look like stone. I don't think I have seen any that look anything like stone that do not require a clear spoxy coat over the flake to hold it in place and avoid wear, so you are talking 2-3 coat rather than 1-2 coat system, which will cost more.

I seem to remember This Old House had a show which emphasized this system.

Here is a link to lots of photos of such systems, that you can link back from to manufacturer sites or product info -
