Question DetailsAsked on 6/24/2012

I have a low-slope roof, can't see it from the ground and have too much fear of heights to get on a ladder and inspect it.

I worry there might be leaves and branches up there that should be cleaned off but I don't know who to hire to do this job. I've heard walking on the roof can damage it and I don't want any "pressure-cleaning / algae cleaning". Also the roof is only 6 years old so I don't feel I need a roofer.

Who do I hire to check the roof and get the leaves and stuff off it, assuming this needs to be done.

Most newspapers and shopper papers have a section that you can use as a resource to hire gutter cleaning handymen. Or you could call a nearby place of worship and ask if they have a church member who is a handyman.(speak to the church secretary or minister). Or you can go to the yellow pages and research gutter cleaning services, Or you can go to Angie's List and research your area for good rated local handyman. The average homeowner does not ask for proof of Workmans Comp insurance but if you want to pay more require it. What is the benifit? If someone is hurt on your property as a workman they have a third party that is liable for the risk. In my states most workman self insure. You may not need the gutters cleaned if you have a six year old home as the trees may have not yet grown large enough but I doubt that is the case. So have the gutters cleaned spring and fall and anytime you see brown-black debris clinging to the side of the gutter (is called tiger striping and is sign gutter is clogged).

You can hire a local tree company to do a "seasonal yard clean-up" which would inlclude cleaning off your roof and gutter if you specify that. You roof sounds fine for someone to walk on, but someone who isn't afraid of heights won't have a problem working from a very tall ladder. If your building is really tall for a residence, then the Tree company can use their bucket truck - but that is the exception (and would cost more). A mimimum rate for two people to come to your home would be ABOUT $120 (depending on what part of the country you live in). It could be higher since I cannot see your property.
The only caveat is that this is the busy season, and what you're requiring is usually done at the very beginning of the year or end. Still, someone like us would tack it on as a small end of the day type job.
Good luck, and don't worry about it too much.
