I did a mortar repair on my brick front steps. After drying it has a white film. How do I get it off the brick?

Here are a couple of previous similar questions with answe4rs which should help - I would start with white vinegar (brown can stain) if a light film - muriatic acid may be needed if a thicker smeared mortar coating is on it.
