I have a Gaylan pull chain toilet. I just replaced the stopper/flapper and now the fill mechanism isn't working. When I press the float down, it fills for a couple seconds, and then the water shuts off. Should I replace the fill pipe, and how? Does it screw into the bottom of the tank? If that doesn't work, then do I have to take off the line from the water supply to the tank in case the pipe is filled with mineral deposits?

Any other suggestions?

You may have to just reset your float if it is shutting off to quick and may need mirrow to see to make the adjustments. I think they were fluidmaster ballcocks. Call Angies list get a plumber!
