Question DetailsAsked on 12/18/2019

I want to remove 1976 Brick Chimney stack from the roof. Can chimney breast have weight bearing structure?

I'm removing the brick chimney stack on the roof. Bricks are falling apart and I don't use the fireplace. Eventually I want to go with ventless fireplace. I want to tear down the chimney from the top of the roof down to ceiling level in phase one. In phase two I want to tear down the bricks from the ceiling level down to the floor. I want to know if houses built back in 1976 where these brick fireplaces were built did these become part of the structure? Was it only free standing fireplace? In other words would it damage the structure of the house if I were to tear down the fireplace all the way down to the floor?
