Question DetailsAsked on 9/17/2012

I have a squirrel in my attic. I was told to put moth balls up there because they dont like the smell and it would drive him or them out.

Who or what business should i look at for handling this problem?

While mothballs might work it will not solve the root cause, how is the squirrel getting in and if the squirrel has nested and had babies,it will not solve that problem. Here arethe steps you need to take:

1. Inspect the attic for nesting and entry points.

2. Inspect the outside of the building for entrypoints. Check for gaps in soffit, around pipes and wires entering the building.

3. Set live traps to remove squirrels these areavailable at some feed stores or online at They cost about $40 each

4. Once you believe you have removed all the livesquirrels check to make sure there are no nest with babies that need to beremoved. If they are present be sure touse heavy duty gloves as they may carry disease.

5. Seal all entry points

My recommendation is you may want toconsider hiring a pest control or trapping professional, as they will do all ofthe above for you.
