Question DetailsAsked on 7/24/2017

I am looking for someone to do a video air duct inspection in the san francisco bay area. Do you know of anyone?

We have an issue with a hard hat that was sucked up into the HVAC system and need a company that can come in with a camera system to look into the duct work.

Some Heating and A/C contractors have duct cameras, but more commonly Duct Cleaning would be the Search the List category (or Google search phrase) to use to find a tech to do this.

Other alternative (I would have them thoroughly chlorine bleach clean the equipment first) would be a Sewer Cleaning company with a sewer camera - some have retriever tools that can fit onto a sewer camera to both locate/look at it and turn it and pull it back out. Or just use a duct camera (or maybe even just a toolbox or rented 6' fiber optic scope looking in vents/registers and maybe a few 1/2-3/4" drilled holes in the ducting to locate it - though that does not retrieve it, but might be you can remove a piece of ducting or cut a hole and put an inspection/patch plate over it, depending on how easy it is to open up the ducting at that point.

Another possibility before going the other routes - use an ear against the ducting or a stethoscope to listen along it while the HVAC blower is going at highest speed - I would guess (no guarantee) that if it is jammed in the ducts you would hear a howling or whistling around the hard hat.
