Question DetailsAsked on 9/8/2013

If I have Lennox equipment, do I need to hire a Lennox dealer?

I have a Lennox AC and Furnace but there are a limited number of dealers in my area. One company told me that only Lennox dealers can service and replace parts at a reasonable price. Is this true?

Not true here in our part of Florida, unless it is covered by a Lennox Exteneded Labor Warranty. I have heard that in some areas Lennox Dealers get a lower price on parts, but doubt that is true.

I have heard the same thing from a Lennox installer of a new furnace here, and there has been news in the business news about a federal investigation of differnet types of manufacturers giving preferential pricing to dealers, which is an anti-trust violation. Auto companies paid hundreds of millions in settlements and fines a decade or more ago on that same issue.

Check your warranty to see if it requires servicing by an authorized service rep to maintain warranty coverage - some of the advanced computerized systems have that phrasing, because untrained servicin can screw up the system's operation and cause damage by allowing equipment overheating or overcooling or too frequent cycling. Also, some manufacturers play hardball by claiming that any damage or fault discoverd by a non-authorized technician was damaged by them so not coverede by warranty, so for your protection I would attempt to establish a relationship with a Lennox dealer locally that you feel is fair, and try to stay with that one.
