Hello Van,

This is Sarah B. in Member Care. Thanks for posting!

I apologize for any confusion about Angie's List! Angie's List helps you identify the best service and healthcare providers to fit any need, while also letting you know who to avoid. Businesses don't pay to get on the List, and our ratings are based only on feedback from consumers like you. Members can access company reviews by phone, email, and through our website, www.angieslist.com. As an Angie's List member, you’ll also receive exclusive discounts from highly-rated companies and our award-winning monthly magazine.

Consumers who share their experiences with us are asked to grade their overall satisfaction on an "A" through "F" grading scale. All ratings on Angie's List come from reviews submitted by our members. Non-members may submit feedback, but it is not included when calculating grades.

Grade Breakdown:
A = 3.5+
B = 2.5 - 3.49
C = 1.5 - 2.49
D = .5 - 1.49
F = 0 - .49

Members are asked to grade providers in a number of areas to give a better picture of their service experience.

Classic providers (Home, yard, auto, pet)
Overall
Price
Quality
Responsiveness
Punctuality
Professionalism

Healthcare providers (Physicians, dentists)
Overall
Availability
Environment
Punctuality
Staff friendliness
Bedside manner
Communication
Effectiveness of treatment
Billing and administration

Also, greater weight is given to reviews where work has been done or money has been exchanged. If a member submits feedback when they only received an estimate, their review will be averaged at only 1/5 the weight of a review where work was completed.

If there is a provider on our List that you have some concern about, feel free to send us the information (provider name, address, phone number, contact name) and we would be glad to look into this, and update their profile accordingly.

I hope this information helped! Please let me know if I can assist further. You can respond to this thread or submit a new Answers post. You can also reach us at memberservices@angieslist.com . We're happy to help, Van!

AL does not "support" vendors - just provides listings with consumer reviews on them. The rating system (A-F, like with school report cards) provides info on how manuy good and bad ratings they have gotten, and ones with an overall D or F rating do not show up in category or keyword Searches, though you can search by company name to look at a particular company's review/rating history.

If you know of a specific one that should be blacklisted, contact member care.
