If a provider offers a "senior discount" how old does the customer have to be, or is that age set by each provider?

I provide it without asking for proof. I figure if they ask, then they must need it.

That's going to vary by provider. If they offer it they should have a set age they consistently use. I personally don't offer senior discounts but do knock some off if I get there and see that they really are on a tight budget pinching every penny. It's usually pretty easy to tell when someone just wants a deal and when they need it. As an example: I charge a $150 minimum labor charge but if I show up and see the person basically has nothing but what they can afford on their SS check I knock off up to $50. I can't go lower and still cover my overhead but I try to do the right thing. We all should.
