Installing bathroom exhaust fans - none exist now - who to hire/price expected?

Hi, we just bought our first house. It is a 1962 rambler and does not have exhaust fans in the bathrooms. Since we are doing other repairs, we would like to get this done now, but have no idea who to contact. We would need the fans to be installed (electrical) plus the duct venting to the outside. Should it be an electrician? Would an electrician do the venting up to the attic/eaves as well?

Also, does anyone know what the total cost would be (parts + labor)?

Since you are running new wiring for the fans hire an electrician to install them. Make it clear that you want the complete job done including any drywall repair if he goes hog wild and tears it up as well as the ducts run outside per code. It's not the worth the risk to hire a handyman if you don't already know someone that can properly install the new switches and wiring. Although many are perfectly capable of handling a job like this, unless you know for sure he is capable of doing this work safely and properly assume he doesn't for your own protection.

The price will vary greatly between a handyman and an electrician. It really depends on your area, the type and size of fans you'll need installed, accessibility to the work areas in the attic, etc. At a very minimum you should plan on $3-400 each for someone who knows what they are doing but rates vary by area of the country and even city to city. Call a few electricians recommended on Angie's List and verified through the BBB for estimates.
