Question DetailsAsked on 1/7/2015

Is there someone I can contact to find all underground lines from the street to the house?

We are in the process of having our septic tank inspected and they encouraged us to find out & mark where the power lines - electrical, cable, water - are leading into the house from the street in case they need to replace the tank. We called the "Before You Dig" office and they were to send out a guy from each vendor to check but said they were only responsible for the street and do not survey the lines from the street to the house. Which of course is what we need! Can anyone help us?

Assuming the "Before You Dig " number you called was the Call Locate Center for your area - usually 811 - I would call back and talk to a supervisor to make sure you did not talk to an undertrained opeator. I have never heard of a utility locate service that does not locate underground lines to the termination point or beyond - which is the electric meter, the gas meter, the telephone termination box, the cable TV termination box - all on the wall of your house or within a foot or two. Water and sewer they usually locate to the face of the house for you if they can, though granted some houses have non-metallic lines without tracer wires so they cannot locate them, but they will generally try to locate your exit point from the house for you and mark the street connection or curbstop valve location so you can guess an approximate alignment between them. Propane/fuel oil companies will generally locate from the tank to the house for you.

If they flat out do not locate to your house, then I would google for a private utility locate company in your area with a search phrase like this - utility locates Sheybogan - there must be such if the locate center does not do it to the house. The Locate Center or local utilities may have names of local private locators on their website.
