Question DetailsAsked on 7/6/2015

Is there a way to find someone who will cut down large oak trees for their wood?

I just bought a house that has woods behind it and the trees come all the way up to the back of the house. I am wondering if there is a good reliable company that would cut them down in exchange for the wood? There are at least a dozen or more that need to come down. I do not feel safe with them so close to the house.

A few Tree Service companies in some areas do removal for free (though not grinding the stump, probsably), and sell the wood to small sawmills. Otherwise, you are going to have to either find a Firewood dealer who will do it, or google for local hardwood sawmills to find one. For a single tree not many commercial sawmills would be interested unless you delivered it to them, but a small porta-mill type might be.

Bear in mind, especially if where it could damge buildings or utilities or such when it is felled, that if they are not properly insured and carry worker's compensation insurance for their workers and so forth you are risking a lot - many times safer to just have a tree service cut and stack or cut and dispose of a tree like this and avoid the liability issues.
