Is it ok to reuse carpet padding?

Original padding is about 15 years old. Contractor installed new carpet over the existing padding.

If the old padding is still sound there's no reason you have to replace it. Padding is not that expensive (when compared to carpet) so it is usually replaced when the carpet is. But padding is what gives your carpet that 'cushion' feeling when you walk on it, so an older padding that is worn down typically won't be as easy on the joints as new (assuming the same type of padding).
